What is virtual Revision?

We 'bring' revision conferences right into your school/ college: they feature pre- recorded / filmed revision sessions with senior examiners which you can access from CDs. So you no longer need to take your students out of school/ college to hear the best advice from your examiners.

Just click on www.VirtualRevision.com where you can read all about the programmes in your subject.

How can I fund a Virtual Revision Course                                                             TOP

'Help! If I were taking a trip, I could get students to contribute or pay fully to cover the cost. Do I have to spend capitation / budget? What can I do in this case?'

Ultimately this is a matter for discussion between you and your management team but the following is the way in which some colleagues are proceeding:

The product constitutes a conference, albeit one held within your school. As such, many schools and colleges are inviting their students to make contributions towards the cost – just as they would with a trip / event which takes place off-site. With leasing costs which can be lower than £1 per delegate (click here for costs), any cost you pass on to your students need not be either prohibitive or exclusive.

How do I get the best out of a Virtual Revision Course!/ How do I organise a Virtual Revision course?                                                                                                        TOP

You have so many options! Here are just some of the ways colleagues tell us they are planning to use them:

- An in-house Revision Conference

  • Perhaps run in a single day or over two, taking over a large classroom or the hall, perhaps using an LCD projector and getting all your students together for a revision day of their own –
  • A revision day which does not involve early starts, late finishes, risk assessment paperwork, rush hour travelling and inflated ticket prices!

- A ready made set of Revision lesson / periods:

  • Sessions can be slotted into your revision timetable, as teaching revision aids – you can utilise sessions as an integral part of your planned revision programme.
  • Play a session or two in a revision class period, stop them and allow your students to work on the problems – discuss what you have arrived at – and start the CD going again. Play, Pause and Replay the input from the Examiner – to maximise your students' understanding.

- Allow students to review them by themselves – work at their own pace and on their own initiative, if they so wish. Make it available for use in drop-in sessions so they can work at what they find most useful.
